Disaster Technology Training That Builds Real Capacity
When disaster strikes, nonprofits providing critical support need to move quickly. They cannot afford to learn new systems in the middle of a crisis. To ensure Greater Houston has the networks, tools, and shared workflows needed to respond rapidly and effectively, the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance hosted a hands-on disaster preparedness workshop for its Core and Community Partners focused on our system coordination platforms.
The Disaster Alliance brought together its Core and Community nonprofit partners for a collaborative workshop to co-create shared, standardized outcomes for future disaster recovery grants. By working together to define common measures of success, the Disaster Alliance can more clearly demonstrate the collective impact of our region’s recovery efforts, ensure consistent reporting across partners while elevating their unique strengths, and improve our ability to communicate its effects.
Solar Batteries Helping Houston’s Most Vulnerable Communities
Powered for Good, an early pilot initiative, explored lending these solar-powered batteries—capable of powering small electronics for hours without recharge. This initiative was one of the first steps in formalizing Greater Houston Community Foundation and United Way of Greater Houston’s partnership in building resiliency to disasters in our region through the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance.
